On
Saturday February 9th, TTA Press hosted their ninth ‘TTACon’.
The folks at TTA have stripped convention going down to its
bare essentials, dispensing with such unnecessary trimmings
as panels, discussions and speeches, instead concentrating
on the two basic elements – people and alcohol.
TTACon 9 took place at Filthy McNasty's in London, and as
Interzone’s Jetse de Vries reports: “The weather
was sunny, about 15°C: when the sun was directly on the
outside benches, it even felt like a balmy Summer afternoon!
“Early arrivals included Mark Samuels and his wife Adriana
Diaz-Enciso, Stuart Young, my IZ colleague Dave Matthew with
TTA/IZ writer Paul Meloy, and Tony Lee, among others. After
Ellen Datlow and John Clute arrived, with Paul McAuley in
tow, the benches filled up, and a good time was had by all.
“Later
on, TTACon was continued inside, where late arrivals included
internet maven and IZ reviewing editor Paul Raven, Pat Cadigan
and Niall Harrison – the latter two just coming directly
from a Clarke Award meeting (even after his fifth mineral
water Niall refused to spill the beans re. the nominees).
More fine discussions ensued, and at around 9 pm (there could
be no other time on this fateful day), TTACon 9 was adjourned.”
Here’s to TTACon 10!
